🌳展覽介紹🌳

逐漸剝落的記憶在時間的皺摺裡殘留,腦中的風景形成一種魅影似的殘念,心中飄浮的島始終在兩地游移,試圖的在現實中對焦後,徒留一道道的光影,穿梭於法國和台灣之間……,穿梭於現實和虛擬之間……,透過影像的凝視耙梳意念的本質和對時間、空間的探微。

此系列作品企圖從自己腦部核磁共振的顯像,把感知的世界,和腦神經科學的影像做連結,由自身腦部核磁共振的顯像剪輯而成的影片,投影於空間中,腦部的影像幽靈似的閃動在意識與無意識當中,影像中經常出現在旅途、遷徙、游走的狀態。法國街道、高速公路、火車站、渡船、隧道、港口、地鐵、機場等,一連串的轉驛站,連結無數個當下與記憶。

展場內,裝置於空間中透明紗網高高低低懸掛隔間的投影影像,影像彼此穿透、交錯、反射在可辨識與不可辨識,觀眾游走於其中,猶如漫遊於我的回憶與經歷的光影當中,隨本展覽探討意念和記憶的本質以及生命的樣態。

 

🌳Exhibition Introduction🌳

The detritus of memories was lost in the mists of time, making the scenery in mind a faint consciousness as elusive as a phantom. The mental island keeps drifting between France and Taiwan, between reality and fiction. It leaves only trails of light and shadow behind it after a futile attempt at focusing. Images are employed as the medium for investigating the nature of idea and exploring space-time.

This art series seeks to connect the perceived world with the neuroscientific images by virtue of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). It projects the edited MRI images of my brain in the exhibition space. The phantom-like images flash across human consciousness and unconsciousness. Besides, they are intermingled with the images of traveling, moving and wandering. Innumerable moments and memories are connected in the blink of an eye by the images of different transfer posts such as streets, highways, railway stations, ferries, tunnels, harbors, subways, and airports.

These images are projected onto the translucent voile curtains hung either high or low in the exhibition space. They penetrate and interlace with each other, reflecting not only the recognizable but also the unrecognizable. The viewers wander in the lights and shadows consisting of my memories and experiences, exploring the nature of idea and memory as well as the modality of life.

蕭美玲

-現職國立台北教育大學藝術與造形設計學系助理教授

1989年畢業於國立藝術學院(北藝大)。1994年入法國南錫高等藝術學院(École nationale supérieure d’art de Nancy),1997獲德法獎學金赴德國卡爾斯魯爾(Karlsruhe)藝術學院進修,1998年畢業於法國南錫高等藝術學院,2000年畢業於法國Le Fresnoy國立現代影像工作室(Le Fresnoy National Studio of the Contemporary Arts),師從知名美國旅法藝術家Robert KRAMER學習影像及紀錄片創作。

蕭美玲的創作跨界錄影藝術與紀錄片之間,其錄像作品展於法國Bourge勃日Bandit Mages國際錄影多媒體藝術節、德國Saarbrücken電影及錄影藝術節、德國卡爾斯魯爾(Karlsruhe)藝術學院展,女性影展、台灣美術雙年展……等。其紀錄片作品曾參展日本Yamagata山形國際紀錄片影展,法國龐畢度Cinema de Réel真實的電影國際紀錄片影展,法國Lussas路薩斯國際紀錄片影展,德國Leipzig萊比錫國際紀錄片及動畫影展……等。

其作品〈雲的那端〉獲2007年日本山形國際紀錄片影展亞洲千波萬波特別獎、2008年台灣國際紀錄片雙年展台灣獎評審團特別推薦獎。

 

🌳About the Artist🌳

Mei-Ling Hsiao

Assistant Professor in the Department of Arts and Design, National Taipei University of Education.

Graduated from National Institute of the Arts in 1989, Mei-Ling Hsiao was enrolled in École nationale supérieure d’art de Nancy, France in 1994, and undertook advanced studies at Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe, Germany in 1997 on a German-France scholarship. She graduated from École nationale supérieure de Nancy in 1997 and completed her advanced studies at Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains where she sat at the feet of renowned American artist Robert KRAMER and received rigorous training in video and documentary production.

Hsiao’s artworks encompass video art and documentary. Her video artworks were presented in several domestic and international prestigious events such as Festival de Bourges: Bandit Mages, France; Festival SarLouLux du Film et de la video, Saarbrücken, Germany; Exhibition of Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste, Karlsruhe, Germany; women’s film festivals, and biennials in Taiwan. Her documentaries were also screened in several film festivals such as Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival, Japan; Cinéma du Réel, France; États généraux du film documentaire de Lussas, France; and International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film, Germany.

Hsiao’s work “Somewhere Over the Clouds” has earned her the Special Mention for New Asian Currents Awards at Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival in 2007 and the Jury Special Mention Award at Taiwan International Documentary Festival in 2008.

《我的記憶是你的風景》

錄像,10個錄像裝置投影

透明的網幕做為投影布幕,同時是展場的隔間,又猶如光的雕塑體。影片的內容主要是自身自己腦部核磁共振的醫學圖像合成,個人私密的影片片段及法國台灣的高速公路、街道、機場…等影片彼此交錯。部分影像的投影由觀眾參與的動線而決定,由於投影布幕的穿透性不同,產生各種失焦、重疉,錯置,影像是記憶的折射,在時間的縫隙裡。

Mon souvenir est ton paysage

Ten video projection installations

2015

The light, sculpture-like, translucent voile curtains simultaneously serve as the screen for projection and the partitions in the exhibition venue. The content of the projection mainly consists of the MRI images of the artist’s brain, the video footages of the artist’s personal life, as well as the videos of highways, streets, and airports filmed in France and Taiwan. The free flow of the viewers determines a part of the images to be projected. The penetrability of the voile curtains varies, producing several visual effects: losing focus, overlapping and mismatching. In this work, images are the refraction of memories in the fissures of time.

《森》

錄像,三頻錄像投影同步播放

枯木凝望女孩?還是女孩凝視枯木?恐懼來自於無明的自我?還是來自於外在?

影片採取同一事件不同的時間,同步呈現於三個螢幕中,將直線發展的時間,以橫向來閱讀影像彼此之間的時間差,想呈現一種自然的情境到內在幽微的情境。同時藉著聲效腳步聲呼吸聲風聲葉子掉落的聲音鳥生勾勒出女孩內心的生命情境。

La forêt

Is the dead wood gazing at the girl or is it the opposite? Does the fear come from my self-delusion or from external interference?

This video excerpts different timings of the same event and respectively presents them on three synchronized screens. This approach replaces the linear progression of the event by revealing the time-lag between the horizontally juxtaposed images. This shifts the viewers’ attention from the natural scenery to the protagonist’s implicit and subtle innermost feelings. In addition, this video seeks to outline the girl’s frame of mind with the sound of footsteps, breaths, wind, birds’ chirping, and leaves falling down to the ground.

對影像的出現和消失的思考。

作者自我的影像隨著創作材料的準備(磨墨),從漸漸浮現到攪亂至凝結,當毛筆吸收墨汁,自我的影像被毛筆所吞噬,作者的靈魂轉換成創作材料,成為一種符碼,作為創作行為和作者之間的一種辯證。

Lettre-L’être

This piece of work is to contemplate on the appearance and disappearance of the images. The image of the artist appears in the ink as the art material is being prepared. The image along with the ink, gets mixed and eventually disappears as the ink mixture solidifies. As the brush absorbs the ink, the image of the artist is soaked up by the brush.

The artist’s soul becomes material for creation and transforms into a code, which serves as a piece of dialectic between the creative process and the creator.

肚臍的意象象徵著生命的起源。
彈珠在記憶的隧道中穿梭來回,挖掘潛意識裡殘破的記憶,
無頭的娃娃,家庭結婚照,軍人團體照,蜘蛛的顧影自憐,
夜間奔跑的女子,象徵來自生命內部深沉的恐懼。

The belly button symbolizes the origin of life.
The marbles travel through the tunnel of memory in search for pieces of memory buried in the subconscious. The headless doll, family wedding photos, group photos of military soldiers, the lonely spider and the girl on the run in the night – they are representations of the hidden fears in life.

《愈來愈多的你,愈來愈少的我》

各自喝水,冷暖自知。
兩個人的影像封閉在對方的杯中,由喝水的行為帶出對方的影像,也讓對方的影像消失。透過影像透視的遊戲,誰再喝水?誰喝了誰?影像是反射或假象?即使水杯乾了也不見明朗。

Plus en plus de toi, mois en moins de moi

Each takes a sip of water from their own cup how the water tastes is only known to the person drinking it.
The two people’s individual images are reflected each in each other’s glass of water. The “game” of transparent images raises questions like “Who is drinking the water?” “Who frank whom?” Is the image a reflection or an illusion? Questions remained unanswered even after the glass is finished.

作者以身體的行為做時間的記錄,在雪中烙下迴旋的痕跡,象徵著兩個時間的意象既是直線性又是重複性。
當作者達到中心點,鐘聲響起,作者隨著雪的融化而消失。
烙下的痕跡也隨著時間漸漸消散。

The artist records time through body movements.
The spiral traces made in the snow symbolize linear and cyclical perception of time.
As the artist reaches the center, the bell tolls,
The snow melts and the artist vanishes.
The traces left behind also disappear gradually in the passing of time.

旅法時的濃濃鄉愁?印尼尋找生命的儀式、火山神話和漂移的記憶?一個胚胎的成形,從生命形成之前的虛無與未知,到呱呱落地的存在與真實?引發我重新審視這個世界的熱情,專注地從嬰兒的眼眸中去覺察端倪。
生命的記憶是否可以透過母體傳輸?那麼有多少記憶來自法國?
印尼?台灣?或是她的前生前世?

It is homesickness while studying in France; the Indonesian for ceremonies of life, volcano mythology and drifting memories? Is it the formation of an embryo, from emptiness and unknown to the existence on. Earth as a baby that leads me to reexamine worldly passions? Pay close attention to the eye of the baby. Can memories of life be transmitted through the mother? How much memory would come from France, Indonesia and Taiwan? Could there be memories from past lives?

《靈光乍現》

錄像裝置

1996

六個佛像剪影在六台大小不同的電視螢幕上,
螢幕播放著無選擇性的電視台影像、廣告、新聞…,
每個佛像之前有一個氣泡,氣泡上有一顆彈珠,
透過光學的原理,氣泡上的彈珠反射電視的佛像,變成倒影。
同時氣泡本身反射電視的輻射光線,像一個透明的晶體,
晶體後面的如來不動。在這裡,佛像中的影像,
象徵泛泛俗世的世界。氣泡象徵每個生命個體的時間性,
俗世的影像在閃動,生命的時間慢慢消失,唯一不動的是彈珠裡的佛像。
在佛家的理論中,認為不要喪失每個當下,也就是說傾宇宙之力,
活在眼前一瞬之間。如果能意識到這個「當下」,每個當下都可能是涅槃之境,即可超越俗世的時間概念,在所有的時間中永恆存在,這個永恆的現在可以切段時間的切口,結合過去與未來,直到我們的死亡。

《幻象山水》

錄像裝置

2005, 9’30”

此作品和聲音創作者曾毓忠及現代音樂家張欽全影音合作。由作曲家曾毓忠的作品幻象山水作為影像創作的基點,張毓忠現場即時表演加上幻象山水錄影作品投影。

影像如都會錯置的光影游移,忽遠忽近,無可辨識,像失落的靈魂,慢慢的彷彿進入一個藍色的時光隧道,無限的冥想,和心中的山水連結;最後又重新投入都市的叢林直到被吞沒。

《這那,之間》

錄像裝置

1998

這件作品以兩個時間觀做相對的投射。一邊的銀幕上有九格相同的影像,蝴蝶在黑夜閃電中,振動翅膀展翅而飛。蝴蝶和閃電以不同的速度剪接,有時遲緩,有時停格,因此每格影像的出現和消失的時間不同,位置也有所不同,視覺上有一種永遠循環,瞬間即逝又偶發的狀態,象徵著無始無終輪迴的生命觀。蝴蝶的展翅和閃電的結合,讓人有「蝴蝶效應」的聯想。

所謂蝴蝶效應就是宇宙中任何一地,任何一個微小事物的變化,都相互牽連著。同時另外一個銀幕投射著一把刀直陷落下,一隻手試著捕捉刀落(下)的瞬間,刀落象徵直線性的時間,之前,之後。手抓刀像是試著捕捉時間的缺口,死亡的停格。觀眾介於兩個銀幕之間,在視覺上一邊試著捕捉蝴蝶展翅的瞬間,一邊試著捕捉手握刀的瞬間,觀眾處於「之間」(inbetween)感受剎那的不安。
