➽ 展覽介紹

2011魔幻動畫展延續去年的策展精神,在動畫技術方面,有傳統的手繪、偶、拼貼動畫、到數位3D電腦動畫。在類型上除了敘事完整的純動畫短片、結合真人表演的作品、也有個人風格強烈的實驗創作。這次動畫展一共有四個節目,分別是加拿大電影局精選集、俄羅斯動畫大師亞歷山大‧佩特夫作品集、2011年安錫動畫影展最佳影片及2011年渥太華動畫影展最佳影片。

加拿大電影局在國際動畫短片製作上佔有很重要的地位,而近十年來,亦帶動起國際知名動畫導演與其共同製作的風潮。這次節目是這近一兩年來的作品精選集,除了有多位加拿大籍導演不同風格的影片,更有多部跨國合作的影片 如波蘭籍的導演Kamil Polak作品 the lost town of switez,詩意的影像展現濃厚的波蘭繪畫風。在俄羅斯動畫大師亞歷山大‧佩特夫作品集,除了動畫迷耳熟能詳的得獎片,更有他最新指導的學生作品one more time,幽默流暢的動畫,令人讚賞。

與影展單位合作上,除了安錫動畫影展外,今年第一次與渥太華動畫影展合作,將放映2011年得獎的十部作品。這個北美最大的動畫影展在九月才剛結束, 2011魔幻動畫展將是他們作全球巡演的第一站,台灣觀眾將能與世界同步看到最新的動畫創作趨勢及敘事手法。

今年將放映三十多部短片,希望特過這些奇幻豔麗的影像,滿足你我想像的慾望。

 

➽ Exhibition Introduction

AnimA 2011 continues last year’s curatorial spirit. In animation technology, there is traditional hand-drawing, puppet, cut-out and 3D computer animation. As to the genre of animation, there are not only narrative animations, and works cooperated with live action, but also experimental work with strong personal style. There are four programs in this year “ANIMA” Exhibition. Respectively, they are Best Collection of National Film Board of Canada, Collection of Great Russian Animation director Alexander Petrov, Best of 2011 Annecy International Animation Film Festival and The Best of 2011 Ottawa International Animation Festival.

The National Film Board of Canada plays a very important role in the international animation production, and over the past decade it has been leading a trend of co-production of world-renowned animation directors. The program for this year is the best work collection in the recent two years. There are not only the various films by Canadian directors, but also the works by international cooperation. For example, the work titled as “The Lost Town of Switez “ by Polish director Kamil Polak. His poetic images show the dense Polish drawing style. In the program of Collection of Great Russian Animation director Alexander Petrov, except to those famous awarded films for animation fans, it also represents the latest work tilted as “One More Time” which is made by the student under his supervision. The humor and fluency in the film are amazing.

Regarding to the organizer cooperation, except to Festival International du Film d’Animation d’Annecy, it is the first time for us to cooperate with OTTAWA international animation festival. The exhibition will represent 10 films that are awarded in 2011. This biggest animation festival in northern America was just closed in this September. 2011 ANIMA” Exhibition will be their first stop of world tour. The audiences in Taiwan will witness the latest animation creation trend and narration style with others in the world at the same time.The audience will have chance to watch the greatest work with the latest trends in animation and narration. The festival will screen about forty short films, and these special images of beautiful fantasy are expected to satisfy your desire for imagination.

⫸ 加拿大電影局精選集 Best of National Film Board of Canada

加拿大國家電影局(簡稱NFB)是一個獨特的文化機構,以社會紀錄片、動畫等作為創作平台,勝名遠播世界各地。創立71年來,NFB已製作超過13000作品,贏得超過5000個獎項,其中包括12項奧斯卡獎,兩項加拿大新媒體獎和兩項威比獎。

NFB的動畫先驅諾曼‧麥克拉倫的創新傳統和卓越成就,在NFB的全國總部蒙特婁設立動畫部。動畫導演可於動畫部使用任何設備製作影片,使創作者身處於製作資源充裕的環境,剛出道的動畫師並能與許多加拿大最有成就的電影人一起工作,共同分享創意和技術。近年動畫部更積極朝向國際合作的方向前進,已經跟來自法國、波蘭、葡萄牙、匈牙利、瑞士、荷蘭、日本等動畫公司及導演共同製作影片。

今年影展將會放映七部來自NFB近兩年的作品選集,您會看到各種不同的技術和敘事方式的動畫短片。

 

The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) is a unique cultural institution. It is widely known around the world for its production of excellent documentaries on social issues, animations and as a creative platform for artists.

It was established 71 years ago and has produced over 13,000 works﹔won over 5,000 awards, including 12 Academy Awards, 2 Canadian New Media Awards and 2 Webby Awards.

On top of the pioneer of NFB animation Norman McLaren’s innovation of tradition and excellence he has set up an animation department in the NFB’s national headquarters in Montreal. Animation directors can use any equipment and resource in there to accomplish their works. Artists make films by hand drawing themselves from early years have moved on to computer animation and now in a resourceful environment of production where young animators can work with many of Canada’s most accomplished filmmakers, share ideas and technology. This animation studio is rapidly developing and enthusiastically gathering new talents from across the country as its greenhouse program, which is to emerge and cultivate a group of young filmmakers.

In recent years, the animation department is seeking even more positively international cooperation. It has co-produced animated films with companies and directors from France, Poland, Portugal, Hungary, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Japan.

This year the festival will be screening seven works from NFB’s anthology of most recent years. The audience will see a variety in technical and narrative expression in these animation works.

⫸ 2011年安錫國際動畫影展最佳影片Best of 2011 Annecy International Animation Film Festival

安錫國際動畫影展創建於 1960年。最初是雙年展,1998年起改為一年一度舉辦。這是國際動畫電影協會(ASIFA)發起的四個國際動畫影展之一,該影展協會主要辦理各種動畫技術電影的競賽(手繪、剪紙、偶動畫、電腦動畫等)。

安錫動畫影展是全世界最重要的影展之一,放映最新、最有創意的動畫影片。影展匯集該領域產業最有才華、最受重視的創意專業人士。安錫動畫影展不僅提供了動畫影片的放映平台,也帶領參與影展的人走入一趟有關動畫的過去、現在與未來的核心之旅,兼具開創性及前瞻性,引導世界動畫創作的視野,在影展期間,主辦單位會同時邀請世界知名導演舉辦多場國際論壇,談論動畫創作的未來及遠景。

安錫動畫影展是競賽類的影展,競賽類別包括短片,劇情長片,電視,商業片以及學生畢業影片等。今年共計放映超過 500部影片,其中包括213部正式比賽影片。2011年安錫動畫影展最佳影片將放映今年獲獎的九部動畫短片,分別來自義大利、英國、法國、波蘭、阿根廷、澳大利亞等國。

 

The Annecy International Animated Film Festival was founded in 1960. It was initially biennale then to annual festival in 1998. This was one of the four international animation festivals the International Animated Film Association (ASIFA) initiated. The festival is mainly a competition of all technical sorts of animation films including hand-painted, paper-cutting, puppet animation, and computer animation…etc.

The Annecy International Animated Film Festival is considered to be the world’s most important film festival in which the latest and most creative animations are shown. It brings together the most talented and noted professionals of each field in the film industry. It not only provides a platform for screenings but also to lead people who participated in the festival to a trip into the core of past, present and future animation. It has both innovative and forward-looking vision that guides the world’s animation. During the festival, the organization also invites world-renowned directors to hold a few international forums that talk about the future of animation and creative vision.

The Annecy International Animated Film Festival is mainly a competition of animated films. Categories of competition include short films, feature films, television, commercials, movies and students’ graduation works. This year a total of more than 500 films screened, including 213 official candidates.

2011 Annecy Animation Festival Best Film session will be screening this year’s nine award-winning animated short films from Italy, Britain, France, Poland, Argentina, and Australia.

⫸ 2011年 渥太華國際動畫影展最佳影片 Best of 2011 Ottawa International Animation Festival

渥太華國際動畫影展(OIAF – Ottawa International Animation Festival)成立於1976年,成立之初以雙年展的形式舉辦,至1997年,有鑒於學生創作激增,開闢了學生影展,改以隔年交替方式舉辦,參與之創作者年齡層從小學、中學、甚至擴及大學、研究所。由於兩影展廣受好評,2005年OIAF決定從雙年展形式改為每年定期的影展,每年定期在中秋九月中旬舉辦,報名參展的影片從當初的四百多部到現在近三千部,OIAF已成為北美洲最大的動畫影展。

渥太華占地利之便,與加拿大電影局(NFB)合作關係密切。在影展其間,NFB不但派人支援活動,其製片都會參與及主持與導演面對面的會談,是此影展的一大特色。除此之外,在2004年OIAF更結合動畫業界,舉辦電視動畫研討會(TAC – Television Animation Conference),探討成功的商業案例及促成國際合作。

今年渥太華動畫影展首次與台北數位藝術中心合作,提供九部今年最新的得獎影片,分別來自加拿大、日本、英國、美國等國,其中有不少來自創意極佳的學生影片。

 

The Ottawa Animation Festival (OIAF) was founded in 1976 as Biennale initially. In 1997, in view of students’ creation surge, a student film festival was held alternately in the following year. Creators age from primary, secondary, university to grand-school students. As the two festivals are critically acclaimed, the OIAF decided to change the form to annual festival in 2005, and held in mid-September each year. The number of films participated was from more than 400 to now nearly 3000. The OIAF has become North America’s largest animation festival.

Because of geographic proximity, the OIAF cooperates with the Canadian Film Board (NFB) closely. During the festival, the NFB not only sends crews to support activities, producers often participate in and chair face to face discussion talks with directors as a feature of this festival. In addition, in 2004 the OIAF more with animation industry organized seminars on television animation (TAC – television animation conference) to discuss about successful
business cases and promote international cooperation.

Ottawa Animation Festival for the first time this year with Taipei Digital Arts Center offers the latest award-winning films this year, a total of 10, from Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States and other countries, including many excellent and creative videos from students.

⫸ 導演焦點-亞歷山大‧佩特夫作品集 Director on Focus – Alexander Petrov

亞歷山大‧佩特夫來自俄國,身兼導演、藝術家、動畫家,1957 年出生於雅羅斯拉福爾這座古老的俄羅斯城市。1972至1976年,他於雅羅斯拉福爾藝術學校攻讀繪畫與設計。1982年於莫斯科國家電影學院畢業後,進入動畫產業,擔任藝術總監。1989 年,他創作出第一部動畫作品《母牛》,身兼腳本作者、導演、藝術總監、與動畫師。創作此作品時,佩特夫也首度使用玻璃製作動畫。

 

接下來的作品《狂人之夢》、《美人魚》也運用同樣的技術。根據海明威短篇故事改編的《老人與海》則是他人生中的重要作品,該作品為橫跨加拿大、日本、俄羅斯三國的大型計畫,且特別為可於IMAX大螢幕播放而製作。《老人於海》在 2000 年贏得奧斯卡最佳動畫短片獎。在閒暇時間,亞歷山大也喜愛作畫,替書籍畫插圖。

2000年時,亞歷山大‧佩特夫在雅羅斯拉福爾設立了自己的工作室製作新作品。近年來他更致力於動畫教學,這次參展影片特選一部他與學生合作的新作品 One More Time《再一次》,幽默風趣的敘事及流暢的動畫,令人回味無窮。

Alexander Petrov – Russian director, artist and animator. He was born in 1957 in the ancient Russian city – Yaroslavl. From 1972 to 1976 studied painting and design in the Yaroslavl art school. In 1982 he ended art faculty of the Moscow institute of cinematography and started working in the animation as artist-director. In 1989 he created the first author’s film “The Cow” as author of the script, director, artist-director and animator. For the first time for production of this film Alexander used technique of the come to life painting on glass.
Alexander’s following films” Dream of the ridiculous man ” and “The Mermaid” have been made in the same animation technique. A significant stage in Alexander Petrov’s life became film “The Old man and the sea “, basing on Ernest Hemingway’s short story. It is a big international project of Canada, Japan and Russia, which has been created for showing on a huge screen IMAX. Film “The Old man and the sea ” has received the premium of American film-academy “Oscar” in 2000. During his leisure time Alexander Petrov goes in for painting and illustrates books.

In 2000 Alexander has founded his studio in Yaroslavl where he works over the new projects.

消失的斯維特茲城,一個被中世紀時期一場血腥屠殺近乎毀滅的小城鎮,雖然現在已深埋於偏遠一座湖的底部,但彷彿仍舊可以感受其存在於地表之上。本片運用先進的電腦輔助動畫技術營造出一個視覺豐富,深受宗教肖像畫以及波蘭浪漫主義繪畫作品啟發和影響的世界。

HE has used advanced computer-assisted animation techniques to create a rich visual universe inspired by religious iconography and Polish romantic painting.In The Lost Town of Świteź, a town is engulfed after a bloody massacre in medieval times. It now lies at the bottom of a remote lake, but its presence can still be felt on the surface.

《伊底帕斯》(Oedipus)

對於伊底帕斯而言,女人像是個謎一樣。為什麼在她那惹人厭煩的丈夫終於消失之後,他的情婦會莫名其妙地逃跑?伊底帕斯想破了頭,試圖理解這背後一切的原因…一個送牛奶的颯爽年輕人踏上內省的旅程,在這自我發現和追溯的過程中,回顧了他的人生之路。
本片諷刺的模仿了著名的希臘神話故事,在看似卡通化的角色當中巧妙安置了許多加拿大國家電影局裡的知名人物,經典故事《伊底帕斯》在荒誕的詮釋下成了另一種反向思考的悲喜劇版本。

To Oedipus, women are an enigma. Why, with her bothersome husband finally out of the way, did his mistress inexplicably run off? Don’t lose your head, thinks Oedipus. Just try to understand. And so the valiant young milkman embarks on an introspective journey, a process of self-discovery and regression in which he retraces the path of his life.
Parodying the Greek myth, and throwing in a bunch of well-known NFB animated characters for good measure, director Paul Driessen offers up a backwards tragicomic version of the classic tale. Oedipus is Driessen at his absurdist best.

本片導演加入木偶動畫電影的經典傳統,創造一個真誠、異想天開卻充滿道德價值的童話,提醒著我們,衰老的外表有時只是張面具,面具之下守護的是你我心靈的寶藏。

The perfect Granny or Grandpa poster face is what the photographer from Discra, an adult diaper company, hopes to find as he approaches a retirement home, camera in hand. A quick look at a couple of “nice old folks” and that should be it. With Pumpkins and Old Lace, Juliette Loubières joins the classic tradition of puppet animation films, creating a sincere, whimsical fairy tale with a moral that reminds us that old age is sometimes a mask guarding the treasures of our souls.

Two strangers, a man and a woman, sit beside each other on an airplane. After takeoff, the plane goes through some turbulence – and, influenced by the unknown, the man’s spirit plunges into a different world. Here, his desires take control, and the result is a grand romantic saga. In this animated film, director Georges Schwizgebel masterfully sweeps us into another world through music and movement, breaking down the boundaries between desire and reality.

World War I. The soldiers huddled in the trenches are dreading the order to attack. At the signal, a recruit leaps into a hell of fire and blood where the earth engulfs both the living and the dead. The Trenches is an anti-war short film created through a masterful co temporization of archival images by Claude Cloutier.

1909年,一個短小精悍的年輕僑民從英國被派駐到加拿大的艾柏塔省放牧。很快的他便發現,他過去的良好成長與教育背景對於他所面臨到的、生活條件極為嚴苛的新環境並沒有任何幫助。這部動畫短片除了歌頌美麗的草原風光,也闡釋了思鄉的苦悶和人類自大無知的生活在自然環境中的愚蠢與危險。

In 1909, a dapper young remittance man is sent from England to Alberta to attempt ranching. It soon becomes clear that nothing in his refined upbringing has prepared him for the harsh conditions of the New World. This animated short is about the beauty of the prairie, the pang of being homesick and the folly of living dangerously out of context.

《母牛》(The cow)

在俄羅斯鄉間,有戶人家就住在鐵軌旁。小男孩回憶家裡曾養的一頭母牛,母牛供應牛奶給一家人,替這家人載運東西。母牛產下一隻小牛,但小牛卻被男孩父親賣掉。或許是因為失去小牛過度悲傷,母牛做出怪事,逃離男孩,最終遇禍死亡。小男孩夢見那頭母牛、小牛、火車、耕犁,千變萬化的幻影相互衝擊。男孩對過去的回憶,變得甜美而又哀傷。

In the Russian countryside, a family lives next to a railroad track. A boy remembers when he and his parents had a cow, living off its milk and using it as a beast of burden. The cow has a calf that the boy’s father sells. The cow, perhaps grieving for its lost calf, acts strangely, bolts from the boy, and meets with disaster. The boy dreams of calf, cow, train, and plow in a phantasmagoric collision. Later, the boy’s remembrance of things past becomes sweet and elegiac.

The film is based on the worldwide famous novel by Ernest Hemingway about the old fisherman, who has gone alone at the sea seeking for the dream-fish. His three-day wanderings pass in a constant duel now with huge fish, now in fight with the sharks attacking his catch. But in the opinion of his little friend Manoline the old man remains the hero, and that gives him the hope for the future.

The hero of film decides to commit suicide, but at last moment falls asleep. In this dream he dies and appears on other planet which is absolutely similar to the Earth, but people occupying this planet do not know, that such a sin. The hero enjoys cleanliness and harmony of life of which he dreamed on the Earth, but involuntarily destroys this world.
