執行長序

「數位」是現代生活中無法切割的部分,且顯然成為當下的代名詞,藝術發展離不開時代背景,「數位藝術」儼然成為二十一世紀的顯學。數位藝術富親和力的特質,實踐在創新的表現形式上,減少了與觀眾的距離,更改變了藝術的特質,打破既定的觀念。聲音藝術在數位藝術的領域內的定義上有了更深層的探討,機械與電子技術也重新定位了創作的本質。我們樂見台灣數位藝術的蓬勃發展,台北數位藝術中心也一直致力於整合各界資源,展現共同參與的積極意義,並提供交流平台,開創出創意激盪與觀念碰撞之台灣數位藝術新視野。

延續雙個展相互映照的展出模式,台北數位藝術中心再度邀請到兩位傑出數位藝術家以及其作品,分別為台灣聲音藝術先鋒王福瑞的「雲端下的聲林」,以及專精於機械設計且熱愛電子技術的廖克楠的「數位印記」。王福瑞「雲端下的聲林」以無數聲點創造出虛擬的森林,傳達出這個時代當下的聲音;廖克楠的裝置作品則企圖喚起數位演進過程中,對於早期數位化已逝去的記憶。兩者在創作形式、理念探討甚至呈現的時空場域大不相同,但皆探討了數位在當下的意義,呈現出讓人著迷的空間,提供觀眾新穎的感官體驗。

展覽一次涵蓋聽覺與視覺層面,場域穿越時間軸橫跨過去到現在,倘若觀眾深入「雲端下的聲林」探尋聲音的更多面貌,跟隨「數位印記」緬懷與體驗箇中滋味,相信此趟美學之旅將讓您感受良多!

 

The “Digital” has become part and parcel of contemporary life. The development of Art is the production of long historical process in which “Digital Art” has become a popular subject in the 21st century. Digital art has a unique quality of attraction which reflects in its innovative form of expression. This can engage more audience, further change the quality of art, and can break the ideas that have been established for a long time. People have further discussed the definition of ‘sound art’ in the field of digital art. Similarly, mechanical and electronic technologies have also redefined the quality of creation. We love to see the speedy development of digital art in Taiwan. In this regards the Digital Arts Center, Taipei has been endeavouring to integrate the resources from all walks of life to give them one platform. The Center also provides a common platform for different ideas to inspire creative thinking and to produces a new perspective of Taiwanese digital art.

Extending the exhibiting style in which both artwork match with each other, Digital Art Center, Taipei once again invites two outstanding digital artists. These include the Taiwanese sound art pioneer Fujui Wang’s “Sound Forest Under The Cloud”, and Kehnan Liao’s “Digital Impression”. Mr. Liao is expert at mechanical design and loves for electronic technology. Mr. Wang’s “Sound Forest Under The Cloud” uses many acoustic points to create virtual forests that convey sound at once in this contemporary era. Mr. Liao’s installation artwork intends to remind people about the revolution of digital, especially the lost memories of early digitalization. Between these two artists, their creative style, the way they discussed about their ideas, showed time and space field are totally different from each other. However, they both discussed the meaning of digital art in the contemporary times. Their artwork shows a fascinating space, and provides audience a novel sensory experience.

This exhibition includes both audio and visual form at the same time. The space field shows the timeline from the past to present time. Audience further explore the different phases of sound in Mr. Wang’s “Sound Forest Under The Cloud”, and thinking about and experience its taste about “Digital Impression”. I believe this trip will become a great aesthetic experience for you.

創作理念

「從音符的藝術到聲音的藝術,從聲音的藝術到噪音的藝術,再從後者轉變到生活與機器之間的無界與無名的呢喃。」— 賈克‧洪席耶(Jacques Rancière)

「雲端下的聲林」主要是透過聲音的創作,來傳達當下生活狀態與運算機器間的密切關係;這呼應人類早在遠古時代,便會透過敲擊所發出的聲音高低與大小,來對模仿自然界的聲音,並作為社會生活人與人之間的傳達。在數位資訊的當代,我們以0與1的形式來處理與傳遞電腦訊息;以透過大量光點的明、暗,使我們感知圖像訊息。而這最小單位(0與1,或明與暗)的構成與流動,也令人重新思考「聲音」創作的本質。「聲音」的組織與構成,可以回到一個以點狀聲音的創作狀態。若說具象音樂是由百萬音符所組成,此次展覽的聲音創作,則是由無數單位的點狀聲音、所形成大小分明的聲音層次。大量隨機的點狀聲音,無實體地透過空氣的振動,它像是我們在這時代意識感知與機器運算的流動,聽似如同在森林有無數聲點的互相流竄衍生。

 

以展出作品《聲泡》為例,是由透過喇叭與麥克風的聲音迴授,再經由單晶片微處理器來控制迴授的音量。透過隨機亂數以控制聲音的大小與中斷的頻率,產生如大自然昆蟲生物的發聲質。《聲點》則是由數百個喇叭所構成的作品,每個喇叭經由晶片運算而產生不同的音頻,有如數百個頻道的聲響在空間中迴盪。整個展覽其中一個作品透過聲音的分解開展成點狀聲音,另一作品則透過數百如點的發聲體,大量高速、亂數控制的聲音點之流射,使欣賞者進入超驗的意識流動狀態。

 

Concept

The shift from an art of notes to an art of sounds, from the art of
sound to the art of noises and from the latter to the boundless and
anonymous murmur of life and /or machines.— Jacques Rancière

Through the sound work, Sound Forest Under the Cloud delivers the message that addresses the relationship of contemporary life and computing machines. Through the tapping and hammering, our ancestors mimic the sound of the nature and using the rhythm as a way of communication. Now in the information technology era, we use 0 and 1 to deal with and to transmit all the data. Through switching light on and off, we sense the image and receive the message. The omposition
of 0 and 1 transforms the way of sound creation, that sound is composed by switching sound on and off. As the concrete music is composed by millions of notes, in this exhibition Sound Forest Under the Cloud the sound work is created by different volume of sound layers which randomly composed of countless sound dots. The vibration in the air transmitting flow of our sense in this technology era, it sounds like the wind blow through the woods.

One of the artwork “Sound Bulb” is based on the feedback of speaker and microphone, the volume and the sound breaking up controlled randomly by the microcontrollers, creates the sound like the insects’ sound. “Sound Dot” is composed by hundreds of speakers with different rhythm from each speaker. Overall in this project you can hear a variety of sound creation, include one work is through the decomposition of sound into millions of sound dots, the other is composed millions of different volume and rhythm of sound dots into sound flowing, which transmitting into our sub-consciousness.

作品說明 About Work:

《聲點》則是由數百個喇叭所構成的作品,每個喇叭經由晶片運算而產生不同的音頻,有如數百個頻道的聲響在空間中迴盪,透過數百如點的發聲體,大量高速、亂數控制的聲音點之流射,使欣賞者進入超驗的意識流動狀態。

 

“Sound Dot” is composed by hundreds of speakers with different rhythm from each speaker.

Overall in this project you can hear a variety of sound creation. It’s composed millions of different volume and rhythm of sound dots into
sound flowing, which transmitting into our sub-consciousness.

作品說明 About Work:
《聲泡》是由麥克風與喇叭隨機發出不同音量迴授(Feedback)的聲音裝置。由於在玻璃燈泡裡的小喇叭所發出來的聲音與小麥克風所收錄的音源是相同, 在不斷的收音與擴音的循環迴路,產生共鳴迴授。藉由單晶片微處理器、數位電阻和繼電器,來控制迴授的音量,透過隨機亂數控制聲音的大小與中斷的頻率,產生如大自然昆蟲生物的發聲,玻璃燈泡有如發聲的共鳴載體,不同形狀載體有不同的聲音。

過去人們經常運用聲音的高低來創作,在這作品只使用聲音的大小來創作,反而回歸自然的純樸。在這一個聲音不斷生成的迴圈,中斷所造成聲音的消失,反而是新的聲音生成,有如太極中陰陽的循環生成演化。

 

SoundBulb

Sound Bulb, the sound installation in which different volume of feedback sound generate through microphone and speaker randomly. The small speaker and tiny microphone is inside the same glass bulb. The sound from the small speaker is picked up by the tiny microphone, a “feedback loop” is created. The volume of the “feedback loop” is controlled by the microcontroller, digital resistor and relay randomly while the rhythm of sound/silence unconsciously formulates the soundscape of insect world. The bulb as a container varies different sono-signals by its shape.

Instead of mostly using the PITCH to compose sound work, sound bulb unconventionally by using just the VOLUME creates a purified soundscape of the nature. In the endless circles of sound generation inside the bulb, every moment of silence is the birth of new sound. The silence/sound are as the Yin/Yang of TAICHI, the two elements composing the whole universe.

王福瑞老師從1993年成立台灣第一個實驗音樂廠牌和刊物「Noise」成為國際實驗音樂網的一個據點開始說起,之後赴舊金山留學以「精‧神‧經」為名從事實驗聲音/影像創作,近年創作有「聲碟」、「聲泡」、「聲點」等作品,策劃及演出「超響」等聲音藝術表演,參與「臺北數位藝術節」、「異響/Bias」等策展,而「雲端下的聲林」聲音裝置個展傳達出從聲音藝術到噪音藝術,再從噪音轉變到生活與機器之間對話的當代聲響創作旨趣。
