執行長序

台北數位藝術中心是台北市文化局推動數位藝術普及化以及相關展覽的重要據點,每年數位藝術界的重要祭典即是那將邁入第五屆的台北數位藝術節,從去年台北數位藝術中心開始營運起由財團人數位藝術基金會承辦,於每年年底都熱鬧的為台北帶來數位藝術的盛宴。台北市文化局冀望透過這些對一般民眾具新奇趣味魅力的數位展覽,推廣市民對數位藝術、藝文景點的深入了解,使數位藝術在大環境的推動下逐漸成長,成為增加城市魅力的一個獨特景點。

在台北數位藝術中心開館滿一年半的現在,由《空Vacuum-台北數位藝術中心成果展》來作為台北數位藝術中心本身一個重要的里程碑。本次展覽內容為台北數位藝術中心的創意整合實驗室與部分藝術家協同創作,所呈現的作品展現了數位藝術在技術方面的多樣化,與展覽型態上更顯得豐富與多元面向的展出方式。本次展出數件作品中為了讓民眾可以深入淺出的了解數位藝術的本質,基本上的創作方向較為偏向大眾簡易可理解的互動裝置。

藉由《空Vacuum-台北數位藝術中心成果展》,台北數位藝術中心希望民眾可以感受到數位藝術有別於一般傳統展覽且跳脫框架的創作模式,亦讓參觀者留下不虛此行的展覽經驗。

 

Digital Art Center is an important institution by Department of Cultural Affairs, Taipei City Government to promote and popularize digital art. The fifth digital art festival of Taipei is considered to be the most important festival of art. Starting from last year, Digital Art Center has being managed by The foundation of digital art. Digital art festival is hold at the end of every year in busy Taipei city. Department of Cultural Affairs, Taipei City Government intends to encourage citizen to join art events through fun Digital art festival and cultivate their interests in art hoping that digital art will be a new and unique attraction of Taipei City in the near future.

During the 15-month-long history of Digital Art Center, Taipei, 《Vacuum- Exhibition of Digital Art Center, Taipei》works as a milestone of DAC. Most of the artwork is the result of cooperation among C. C. Lab members and artists. It presents a variety of art and skills in diverse forms. To help people understand the essence of art easily, some pieces are designed with interactive functions for easy operation.

《Vacuum- Exhibition of Digital Art Center, Taipei》will impress the pubic with its innovative display. It’s totally different from traditional exhibitions and will definitely leave participants with an unforgettable memory.

創作理念

《空Vacuum- 台北數位藝術中心成果展》為台北數位藝術中心之創意整合實驗室開館一年多來的心血結晶,有著全台首屈一指的創意整合實驗室,台北數位藝術中心的展覽更是數位藝術圈中具高度實驗性的先驅。《空Vacuum》本展覽名稱同時也代表了台北數位藝術中心的當下狀態,空的狀態意指自身定位與外界壓力不平等時,希望外界其他力量的參與注入得以消弭此不平衡之狀態。台北數位藝術中心相信未來中心以數位藝術之平台角色可以融會藝術、創意、表演、科技等多方面跨領域的結合,將數位藝術之層次作提升。 本次展出的作品之一《Are You Clear? 》透過人們常以約定俗成的想像判斷真相的這個觀念,藉由觀者觸碰和旋轉裝置載具等動作的改變,產生介入虛擬世界中的事實,並與虛擬空間產生了連結與互動。 人在觀看全景影像的認知總是憑藉著既定的經驗去想像,我們自以為是的認為清楚的影像即是真相,我們經常以偏概全認定眼前所見的事物,以全蓋偏的謬誤推斷。當你真正看清楚了那一個spot,才會發現一切只是自己的想像,但那想像在視點轉換時,便開始質疑什麼才是具真實性的。淺層地觀看形體的表像和物件背後的意涵皆可能存在同一層次的荒謬反差,刻意營造、矯飾、偶發、有(無)意識等等行為同時發生,我們的辨別需超乎社會規範與真理,此作品〈你真的清楚嗎?〉試圖表現事件判斷的反差和不確定性。觀眾會在一種《Are You Clear? 》的擬真世界中體會到與虛擬人物互動的不確定感。在《意識的溫度》這件作品中轉化溫度的提升作為對自由意識的認同行動。觀眾於作品前會看到模糊的畫面裡有人物虛擬形象的投射,當自身想靠近時模糊的身影作出一個動作,當觀眾也認同此理念時,即可作出相同動作與投射人影產生互動。本次唯一的動畫作品《REVERB》為使用敘事性結構的表現手法,透過後設認知進行藝術家個人反思自我認知過程,將主角反射於自身。 台北數位藝術中心成果展以對數位藝術未來的發展、數位技術應用及無限創意的發想空間為觀眾帶來本次《空Vacuum- 台北數位藝術中心成果展》擬真世界般的虛幻體驗。

 

Concept
《Vacuum- Exhibition of Digital Art Center, Taipei》is a presentation of Creative Club Lab, DAC one-year-long of hard work. CCL is one of the best lab in Taiwan which holds highly experimental and pioneering exhibitions. 《Vacuum》is also a description of the current condition of DAC. It’s an indication of the unbalance struggling between the position of DAC herself and ambient pressure. The participation of outer sources is thus hoping to eliminate the unbalance. In the future, DAC will work as a platform of the combination of art, creativity, performance and technology that will eventually promote digital art.
《Are You Clear? 》is one of the artpiece of this exhibition, it delivers the idea that people normally make judgment according to habitual imagination. By the transforming of motions through touches and rotation of the implement, a virtual reality is thus created for further interaction and connection.

The perception of a panorama bases on our imagination of existing experiences. We simply assume what we have seen as the truth and easily jump into conclusions full of biases and narrow viewpoints. However, when it comes to the time to actually see through a spot, one will realize what one has done built upon nothing but imagination. We start to question what reality is as we change our perspective. A ridiculous contrast might coexist both in the shallow perception of surface and the meaning beyond it. Movements of purpose, correction, incidents and actions with conscious or not all take place simultaneously. Differences should be made beyond rules and criteria. 《Are You Clear? 》intends to indicate the contrasty and uncertainty of judgments. Viewers will also experience the uncertainty when interacting with virtual characters. 《Temperature of awareness》《意識的溫度》is a recognition of freedom via the transformation of the warmth. One will see a vague projection of a virtual character as one step forward. When moving closer, the vague projection will change synchronously. Once agree with the idea, an identical projection will be presented according to physical motions. Moreover,《REVERB》 is the only animation picture telling story in the form of narration. It is a reflection of the procedure of self-examination of the artist himself/herself. 《Vacuum- Exhibition of Digital Art Center, Taipei》 will lead people into a world of virtual reality on behalf of the development of digital art, the utilization of digital technology and the infinite creativity of art in the future.

創意整合實驗室

台北數位藝術中心定位為研發暨整合單位,即以創意整合實驗室C. C. Lab (Creative Club Lab),以整合高階技術、藝術與創意,研發出指標性數位藝術具體成果為目標。希望藉此嶄新運作機制,建立數位科技與藝術創意結合的專業研發平台,會員之間持續共同研發與分享,並公開展示整體的研究成果。本中心將主動邀請數位藝術領域內相關資源成為創意整合實驗室之會員,其中包括高階產業、學術研究、藝術創意與公共資源等,形成運作機制的基礎動能。除此之外,也將接受來自於產官學各界的合作提案,或公開徵求專案之所需之研究人員,以持續性的資源匯集與分享為發展策略,希望建立良性的互動機制,創造前瞻性的未來願景。

 

Introduction of C. C. Lab
Digital Art Center, Taipei is an institution aims on research and cooperation. The mission of C. C. Lab (Creative Club Lab) is to

integrate high-tech techniques, art and creativity and thus develop the most representative digital art programs. By this new and innovative operating mechanism, we hope to create a professional R&D platform for the combination of digital technology and artistic creativity. It also provides members opportunities to work together, to share their experiences and to publish their accomplishment. C. C. Lab also actively invites experts of digital art to join our team. Our members include professionals from high-end industry, academic institutions, art field and general public to organize an operating mechanism. Morevoer, we encourage cooperative proposals from academic institutions, government agencies and other industries. We also recruit researcher from general public. With our strategy of continually collecting information for sharing, we have the ambition to set up a good interactive mechanism for a proactive future outlook.

萬花筒 Kaleidoscope

作品說明 About Work:

觀者透過人體的擺動,從投影牆面前將被拉進結合自身影像與背景結合的影像之中,以萬花筒的繽紛效果與重複性表達出千萬世界中的生命力與歡愉,藉此希望觀眾在影像與意念轉換之餘,與虛擬自身影像的投射產生互動。

 

Kaleidoscope
Viewers’ motion will be captured to the projection wall of background image. Pictures of a superimposition of floral pictures create a vivid, colorful and vigorous image of life and joy. By doing so, viewers can interact with the virtualized projection between images and concepts.

Interactive Explanation
High resolution camera can transfer viewers’ image to an interactive kaleidoscope that changes in compliance with viewers’ movements. As the music flows, the overlapped image and thought will further integrate physical sense to mental perception to experience the beauty of rich colors. Meanwhile, the images captured will also be utilized for picture composition.

作品說明 About Work:
我們經常以約定俗成的想像判斷真相,使我們「看似清楚、越看不清楚」。

人觀看全景影像的認知總是憑藉著既定的經驗去想像,我們自以為是的認為清楚的影像即是真相,我們經常以偏概全認定眼前所見的事物,卻陷入以全蓋偏的謬誤推斷。當你真正看清楚了那一個spot,才會發現一切只是自己的想像,但那想像在視點轉換時,便開始質疑什麼才是具真實性的。淺層地觀看形體的表像和物件背後的意涵皆可能存在同一層次的荒謬反差,刻意營造、矯飾、偶發、有(無)意識等等行為同時發生,我們的辨別需超乎社會規範與真理,此作品〈你真的清楚嗎?〉試圖表現事件判斷的反差和不確定性。

將表演者的肢體動作以單頻道投影,觀者透過她的肢體語言可猜測欲表達之思想和生命,CUBE的裝置記錄了表演者片斷的行為,我們能以俯角視點觀看記錄於CUBE的影像,它(CUBE)任由觀者的觸碰和各角度旋轉,影響表演者的肢體表現、也改變了觀看的角度。觀者的介入使影片中人物的行為在控制之下與自我之間達成平衡,利用象徵外在世界的裝置和獨立存在的個體作此互動連結,觀者可藉由CUBE與表演者進行對話,而CUBE在旋轉過程中,皆受到外在的力與內在的力相互牽引,最後又將回歸平衡狀態,你得仔細尋找、你得捕捉Spot的一條路徑。

 

Are You Really Clear?

People tend to make judgements by thinking and imagining in conventional ways. Like this , we appear to understand the truth clearly but not.
People’s cognition of a whole picture/image is from imaginations based on one’s own experience. We often see the world with our own biased and narrow point of view, and mistaken clear images for truth without realizing its flaws. When you really clearly see that ‘spot’, you’d realize that all is merely your own imagination. When different perspective is taken, ‘reality’ is questioned.
‘Are You Really Clear?’ is about contrasts between things on surface and the truth behind it, and the uncertainty caused by our own (mis)judgement and (mis)understading to the world.
Viewers watch and observe the performer ‘inside the cube’. Viewers can try to guess and interpret massage behind performer’s body language. The ‘cube’ can be moved and rotated, which changes the performer’s mood, body language, and viewer’s viewing angle.

此作品則既非預告片,亦不是劇情摘要,而是以一種獨立的作品方式呈現。在此,抽離、拼貼、斷裂…等表現手法跳出原有敘事架構,但卻更接近真實本身(真實本身為一種simulation或稱為hyperreal),以一種後設性的描繪方式進行,這時候,超真實性的身體正在成形。

 

It’s neither a piece of preview nor plot summary. It’s an independent film. Therefore, it is presented with distance, fragment and fragility that somehow get closer to reality. The story is proceeding with meta-description and the reality is forming at the same time.

作品說明 About Work:
觀眾將直覺的操作模型與real time animation,以虛擬體驗的手法瀏覽一個在google map上的區域。裝置一座連結google map的大型背投影多點觸控桌面,並將tagged互動技術應用在桌面上,藉由結合google map street view程式的互動效果,使觀者如同自己在虛擬的空間中行走。

互動說明:
Viewer利用立體小型模型,透過選擇不同放置對應互動區域,操作互動桌而呈現該區域地圖資訊與連動google街景服務,讓觀眾如同身在該區域中。應用多點觸控技術,結合Tagged Object(程式名稱),取得物件的外置以及旋轉方向,達到直覺的互動。

 

Interactive Table
A combination of instinct operation model and real time animation allows viewers to view a certain area via Google map. A multitouch table with a giant projection of Google map will be installed to implement tagged interactive technology. With the integration of Google map street view, viewers can “walk” in the virtualized area.

Interactive Explanation
A small stereo model allows viewers to select a particular area while an interactive panel will present the map and further connect to Google map street view for an even actual picture. The combination of Tagged Object and multitouch table for the rotation of a certain object to eventually reach the goal of instinct interaction.

作品說明 About Work:
每一度的溫暖感受都是傳達對自由意識的認同。
每個人散發的體溫都是給予人權最有力的能量。
遍地的溫度將被聚集,成為一幅幅預見美好世界的證明。

當觀者走到玻璃到前面,影像會逐漸消失使玻璃呈現透明狀態,將手掌貼觸玻璃後,觀者被擷取的畫面會慢慢浮現出來。玻璃回復透明狀態之後,待觀者離開後玻璃會再度呈現前人被拍攝的靜止畫面。
請用您的手掌觸碰玻璃,這個裝置會感應手掌的溫度並且留下您的影像。

 

The Temperature of Conscious

It’s a recall of freedom as you feel the raise of temperature.
It’s the most powerful energy of human right delivered with body temperature.
Warmth will be collected as a testimony of the beautiful world.

 

Interactive Explanation

Image will gradually vanish and become transparent as viewers walk close to the glass screen. As you touch the glass screen with your palm, your image will be captured and reappear slowly. As you walk away, the glass screen will once again become transparent and ready for next shoot.
Please touch the glass screen with palm for the warmth sensor to start the camera.

內容簡介:

科技與表演藝術的結合並非創舉,但近年來由於數位藝術的發展逐漸建立其領域特性,而被重新廣泛討論數位科技與表演藝術協力創作的可能性。過去作為以編導為重心的後台技術者,要順利轉而成為共同創作者,取得適當的主體性,是這一波討論跨界結合的重要議題。

 

表演藝術在取用數位科技的重要需求之一,是以即時互動為特色的一連串影音與機械回饋機制,這也是21世紀的科技更勝以往而可達成的任務,並創造前所未有藝術形式的新契機。但二者之間的合作方式若無革新式的思維,將淪為回應低效率需求的反覆實驗、低完成度的整體呈現。

 

兼具程式工程師身分的藝術家李家祥,以自身跨界經驗為基礎,結合自由軟體、開放式平台觀念的「互動控制中心」為基本核心概念,提出互動表演程序控制的框架建議。希望無論是概念或實際工作的分工,皆能提高執行效能,創造出全新的舞台經驗。

 

The combination of technologies and the performing arts is not a new creation. However, because that the development of digital art gradually has built its own features in recent years, the possibility of cooperative practice between digital technologies and the performing arts has been widely re-discussed. The situation that changing from a technical staff that worked mainly as screenwriter and director behind the curtain to a cooperative creator who successfully obtains his proper identity is an important issue about cross-border cooperation.

One of the important requirements that digital technologies provide for the performing arts is the mechanism that is composed of a series of audio-visual and mechanical feedback and is characterized by its instant interactions. It is also a task that is more likely to be achieved by the 21st century technologies than ever before. And, it is a new opporunity to create an unprecedented art form. However, if there is no innovative thinking in the cooperation between the two parties, it would end with repeated experiments responding to demand for low efficiency, and overall presentation of low degree of completion.

Artist Jason Lee, himself also a program engineer, based on his cross-border experience, combining the free softwares and the open platform “interactive control center” as the basic core concept, proposes the interactive performance process control framework. He hopes both concept and actual divison of work will improve the implementation efficiency and create a brand-new stage experience.

內容簡介: 互動音樂表演 – Pada

本次表演的發聲物件,採用數個電子零件組合而成,每個發聲物件都有各自不同的聲音頻率,亦即透過類比式的電子零件組合而成不同的頻率振盪器。在表演的過程中,加入了光敏電阻,帶來即時性的變因,結合表演者的肢體詮釋,成為一場充滿不確定性的演出。
此外,除了利用媒材本身之特殊性外,個人在表演當下與其他人的隨機互動亦是重點,在媒材本身的冷調特性之外加入人味,亦即由人與物所構成的一個封閉隨機體與其他隨機體之互動構成一個向外延伸之開敞全體,中間包含人、物質性、非物質性、隨機偶發、構成之可能性等之討論。

此外,除了利用媒材本身之特殊性外,個人在表演當下與其他人的隨機互動亦是重點,在媒材本身的冷調特性之外加入人味,亦即由人與物所構成的一個封閉隨機體與其他隨機體之互動構成一個向外延伸之開敞全體,中間包含人、物質性、非物質性、隨機偶發、構成之可能性等之討論。

 

Performance of Pada

The sounder in this performance uses a combination of a number of electronic components. Each sounder has its own different sound frequencies. That is, through a combination of analog electronic components, the different frequency oscillators are made. A photosensitive resistance is joined in the course of performing. And, that brings instant variables. A show of uncertainty is made while these variables are combined with the physical interpretation of the performer.

Besides, not only the using of the speciality of the media, the random interactions bewteen the performer and others in the course of performing is also an important character. Some properties of human are added into the coldness belonging to the media itself. That is, the interactions between a closed random body, composed by a person and an object, and other random bodies will constitute a whole which is open and reaching outward to the exterior. That brings various discussions about people, materiality, non-materiality, random and chance, and possible compositions.
