女性的一生是一場探險,每天都有著新的際遇。女性的身體亦是柔軟又充滿可能性的,而且除了社會給她的意義之外,隨著身體的變化,她也能自己給自己不同的意義。如同瑪格麗特.芙樂(Margaret Fuller)所敘述的,女性自我成長的目的並不僅是要成為一個稱職的妻子與母親而已,更重要的是,為了她自身的豐富與充實,如同一個瓶子,一個容器一般,隨著成長、結婚、生子,不斷的擴展!!

此次的個展,我試圖將生命旅程上的各式風景,透過數位藝術的呈現方式,來書寫與記錄下每個階段的生命面貌和心路歷程,而透過這些長年來的自我探索和觀察,以及與作品中物件的深刻連結,重新反芻與思索接下來的發展。回顧青少女時的我,憧憬著轟轟烈烈的愛情,在展間掛滿了大大小小的白紗禮服,它們是我具體化的愛情之夢;而曲面投影技術(Curved-Surface Projection)則是將戀愛的心情投影在潔白的婚紗上,透過它們,夢想在眼前展開了。結婚後,我被踏實幸福的生活填滿,尤其兩個小孩相繼來到,分別和我親親密密相連十個月後誕生在這個世界,懷孕的過程使我加倍感知自己的身體,也開啟了對身體議題的興趣和研究;可愛的陶瓷小鞋投注的是對孩子的愛與未來的期望,生活故事則透過浮空投影技術(Holographic projection)呈現出來,3D的立體視覺效果,層疊的半透明投影材質將展間幻化成電影場景。「身體萬花筒」作品談的是身心結合的境界,兩兩相對的鏡射人體造型是「心」字的形變,利用Flash技術模擬萬花筒三鏡結構而成,讓觀眾體會「心」的流動、解構與重組。放眼未來,則希望能兼顧起生活中的多元角色,認真而真切的演好我所嚮望的劇本!

當代自由主義女性主義者貝蒂.傅瑞丹(Betty Friedan)強調女性對公共事務的參與並不意味著要放棄家庭生活,而是讓自己成為能在各種角色中取得平衡的女性,期待透過此次展出,讓與會的大眾能一窺我生命的無限美好。

 

➽ Exhibition Introduction

The life of a female is an adventure. Everyday is a new encounter. The body of the female is soft and full of possibilities. Other than what the society gives her, following the changes of the body, she could also give herself different meanings. As Margaret Fuller described, the purpose of woman’s growth is not only about being a good wife and good mother, but it is for the richness and fullness of self. It is like a bottle or a vessel, expending more and more as she grows, gets married, and gives birth to a child.

In this exhibition, I am trying to present different scenes in the journey of life through the digital art format. Through writing and documenting every stage of life and what went through my mind, it was a self-exploration and self-observation of the years. While connecting with the objects in every piece, I review and start to think about what is to come next. Looking back to my teen years, the spectacular love in I fantasized is represented by the wedding gowns hung in the gallery. They are the realization of my dream of love. The Curved-Surface Projection technology used on the projection on the white gowns is the feelings of falling in love. My dreams are unveiled in front of your eyes. After getting married, happiness and satisfaction fills up my life. My two children came, one after another, who spent ten sweet months so close to me. I was much more aware of my own body in the pregnancy process, and began curious about the issues related to the body. The cute porcelain shoes are the love and the future expectation to the children. The daily life stories are projected through Holographic projection technology. The three-dimension effect transforms the exhibition space into a movie filing set with the translucent material where the projection is on. “Body Kaleidoscope” is about the zone where the body and the mind meet. The mirroring human shapes facing each other are the morph of Chinese character of “heart”. The kaleidoscope was composed with Flash animation in the piece. The spectators should sense the flowing, deconstruction, and reconstruction of the “Heart.” In the future, I would like to take on the multiple roles in life, and to play those roles seriously and truly as the screenplay I had hoped for.

Contemporary liberal and feminist Betty Friedan emphasized that women do not need to give up family life when they participate the public affairs. She argues that women should be able to find a balance between two. For the visitors experiencing this exhibition, I would like you to have a glimpse of the unlimited wonderfulness in my life.

花漾心

我是個女性。自出生的那一刻起,我便不時問自己:「我是誰?我為什麼是女性?」做為女性,「我與他人的關係是什麼?我與社會、世界的關係又是什麼?」 在人生過程中,女性有著和男性完全不同的生命經驗,我的人生在經歷了結婚和生孩子後,又有了更為豐富的層次,也產生了分享和表達這個過程的心情和願望。為了擴大和其他女性個體的經驗連結,我嘗試以藝術途徑來反芻生命經驗,激發其他觀眾及參與者的創作動能,提供一個知覺及情感轉化的出口,重新譯寫有關自身、與他者之間的關係和返視。透過白紗為載體,於其上投影動畫,讓層疊的半透明投影材質將展間幻化成電影場景,藉以探討愛、戀、情、慾的差異與界線,和兩性在愛、戀、情、慾的認知距離。我以拉崗(Jacques-Marie-Emile Lacan)提及「鏡像階段」和潛意識層面中人類普遍性的情感特質,轉以藝術的手法進行公開的表述,以藝術的形式,嘗試扮演含蓄傳遞兩性議題的角色。藉由圖象的表現,顯露對於身體意識與慾望的探尋。

 

Flowery Heart

I am a female. From the moment I was born, I have constantly asked myself: “Who am I? Why am I a female?” As a female, “what is my relationship to others? What is the relationship between me, the society and the world?”
In the journey of life, women have the completely different life experience from the men. My life has been enriched after getting married and having children. After those experiences, I also came to wish to share and express the feelings from them. I am trying to revisit life through art to expand and to connect with other women and their experiences. This revisit should be able to enlighten the creative drive of the visitors and participants, and to provide a transformation outlet of their recognitions and emotions. This process should allow them to reinterpret themselves and the relationship and the reflections between self and others. The white veils are the medium to be projected on, and the translucent material transforms the gallery into a movie scene to discuss the lines between love, affection, emotion, and lust, and the distances of understanding between two genders of those feelings. There is an universal emotional quality in our subconscious and from the “mirror stage” as Jacques-Marie-Emile Lacan, and I attempt to deliver the gender issues in a discrete way through art in public presentation. The imagery exposes the exploration of body awareness and desire.

自由之心

結婚後,我被踏實幸福的生活填滿,尤其兩個小孩相繼來到,分別和我親親密密相連十個月後誕生在這個世界,懷孕的過程使我加倍感知自己的身體,也開啟了對身體議題的興趣和研究;可愛的陶瓷小鞋投注的是對孩子的愛與未來的期望,心之身的象徵圖騰則透過浮空投影技術(Holographic projection)來呈現,3D的立體視覺效果隨著不同的人生目標與階段、時快時慢、不同輪播。而我們身在其中,循著不同的軌道與方向,打造各階段的無線夢想。期待觀眾能從這些作品中,更實際的將努力投入不同階段目標的實踐。

 

The Heart of Freedom

After getting married, happiness and satisfaction fills up my life. My two children came, one after another, who spent ten sweet months so close to me. I was much more aware of my own body in the pregnancy process, and began curious about the issues related to the body. The cute porcelain shoes are the love and the future expectation to the children. A stylized symbol of the heart was established through Holographic projection. The three-dimension effects rotates in different speeds to represent the different goals and stages of life. We, the spectators are within the experience, following different tracks and directions, and making unlimited dreams in different stages. I hope the visitors can devote themselves into different stages of lives into realizations through the pieces.

心之身

歷經了結婚、生子等人生體驗,我重新回到創作的原點,觀看自己一路走來的生命風景,並意會到「心」,在做為我人生的根本和核心價值下,發揮了極大的作用,它是原點、也是動力。我從「心」這個中文字的形狀發想,發現到「心」其實就是兩個對面而坐的人的造型,「心」字的形狀是從一個對稱形的圖案演變而來,自象形文字開始一直到小篆,都保有如此特徵。由於它的形狀就像是一個容器,上方有一個開口,由相對稱的兩半組合而成,是故,我將其與〈身體意識〉中所創發的鏡射人體予以結合,並以數位科技和互動漢字來進行拆解,發展出〈心之身〉兩兩鏡射相對的人體造型,建構出〈心之身〉的原型。互動的形式是讓觀者於沙盤上進行文字的寫書,再透過數位視覺投影〈心之身〉並輔以音效,來作為視覺、聽覺上的呈現與回饋。

 

The Body of the Heart

After getting married and having children, I came back to my creative origin. By looking at the life I have been through, I came to understand that the “heart” at its grandest as a beginning point and drive to the foundation and core values of my life. From the shape of the Chinese character of “heart”, I discovered that it was composed by two human figures sitting facing each other. The Chinese character of “heart” is a symmetrical shape derived since pictographs to the writing from Chin Dynasty (221-206 BC), and still maintains the shape. The shape of it is a vassal with an opening on top, and the right half and left half are identical. I, then, use “body awareness” to mirror itself, and digitalize the Chinese character in order to deconstruct and interact with this human body mirroring shape in the “body of heart,” and to form the prototype of the “body of heart.” The interactive action is set to have the spectators to write in the sand plate, and to project onto “the body of heart” adding sound effects in for a visual and sound expression and feedback.

身體萬花筒

「身體萬花筒」利用Flash技術模擬萬花筒三鏡結構而成,讓觀眾體會「心」的流動、解構與重組,希冀探討的是身心結合的境界。圓盤上不斷輪轉的是運用雷射切割技術的〈心之身〉符碼,透過電腦訊號傳送出不斷鏡射的兩兩相對人體造型意象。「心」與〈身體意識〉系列作品的交互演繹,其人體身軀造型的部分,是沒有外框線設計的,底圖的部分是以大量的「心」這個字所組成,完全重現了原始作品平面圖案中「心」宛如人體成份滿佈全身的姿態。更進一步使用了雷射切割的技術,讓滿佈的「心」字因為材質和厚薄不一的設計,顯出豐富的肌理變化。此原型即成為是我對於生命歷程的反思與投射。放眼未來,則希望能兼顧起生活中的多元角色,認真而真切的演好我所嚮望的劇本!

 

Body Kaleidoscope
Interactive kiosk, laser-cutting, Flash animation, projector

“Body Kaleidoscope” is composed with Flash technology mimicking three-mirror-structure of kaleidoscope for the visitors to experience the flow, deconstruction, and reconstruction of the “heart.” The piece is to explore the sensation when the body and the mind are merged as one. On a rotating circular plate, duplicates of the symbol of “body of heart” cut by laser keeps sending the images of mirroring human figures through computing signals. The “heart” and “Body Awareness” series are intertwined together. The human figure was designed without an outline. The bottom is filled with the Chinese character of “heart,” and reflects the original graphic design where the “hearts” as elements of human body. The various textures of the “hearts” are created by laser cutting to make the shapes with different materials and thickness. The prototype becomes my reflection and projection to my life. In the future, I would like to take care the different roles in life, and to be serious and precise in the script I desire for.

當代自由主義女性主義者貝蒂.傅瑞丹(Betty Friedan)強調女性對公共事務的參與並不意味著要放棄家庭生活,而是讓自己成為能在各種角色中取得平衡的女性,期待透過此次動畫情節的鋪陳,讓與會的大眾能一窺我生命的無限美好。不同階段中對於自己、他人、愛情、家庭與工作的探索,我將藝術視為一個可能的途徑,藉由經歷不同單元中的習作,來嘗試傳達自己在各個階段所產生的不同想法與經驗,以藝術的形式,含蓄傳遞兩性議題的角色,並藉由圖象的表現,顯露對於身體意識與慾望的探尋。

 

Love and Lonely Walk

Contemporary liberal and feminist Betty Friedan emphasized that women do not need to give up family life when they participate the public affairs. She argues that women should be able to find a balance between two. The story of the animation is to share with public about the unlimited wonderfulness of my life. With different stages in the life, through exploring myself, others, love, family and work, I see art as a possible channel, to accomplish different tests in different subjects. I attempt to express my thoughts and experiences in different stages of life. The gender issues are discretely discussed in the art form. The imagery also exposes the exploration for body awareness and desires.
