🔈Performance Introduction

Keeping track of the sounds in Taiwan, and promote them on the international stage.

“Sound” is one of the most penetrating media in new media arts. In recent years, the sound arts in Taiwan have incorporated various disciplines to generate a more diverse and innovative development. In combining various forms in sound art, sounds are redefined, deconstructed, and reorganized. Extricating themselves from burden of the past, these sounds go beyond what the public can imagine on the media and expression of sound arts.

Preceded by the introduction of prominent sound art performances in the international sound art exhibition “Bias” in 2003, “Compromise Bias 2014” introduced sound artists Atsuhiro Ito from Japan as well as Fu-jui Wang and Chung-han Yao from Taiwan. They hybridize various scenes in sound art and present developing or developed performances. These active and potential Sino-Japan artists in new media art and electronic music bring sound art showcases to interact with local artists in Taiwan.

Organized by artists in Japan, “Compromise” combines audio and visual forms of art into a whole new hybridized form of art, while “Bias,” organized by artists in Taiwan, transforms the artistic/academic forms of performance into a DVJ form, an audio-visual performance. Sound artists from Taiwan include Chung-han Yao and Ting-hao Yeh, the duo in the digital audio-visual group HH/Taipei, which incorporates sound art and electronic music to create a special spatial perception with real-time images. Another sound artist from Taiwan, Aluan Wang, visualizes the game-like process of generating sound with real-time computing. Artists from Japan include an audio-visual digital group of cutting-edge composers TESTAV and VJ Scott Allen, as well as a magic combination of Akiko Nakayama and Drowsiness with electric guitar analog and on-site hand drawing. Lai Tsung-yun, a young artist from Taiwan, presents a performance of analog images. As an independent filmmaker, Lai adopts the visual narration in film-making, putting forward a journey-like audio-visual performance. In addition to audio-visual performances via computing, analog synthesizer is also a key element to transform electronic music. The combination of Hisashi Saito, a famous composer of pub music, and Galcid, a new female group of synthesize music, can be expected to perk up the scenes of synthesized music. Moreover, as “Bias” welcomes new works, this event welcomes the new crossover group CBMI to present an ironic sensual experience with a strong subculture spirit. Last but not the least, the latest master pieces is presented by Wang Fujui, the pioneering sound artist from Taiwan, and a Japanese duo of Yoshimitsu Ichiraku, an active artist in international digital art, and Atsuhiro Ito, a composer of fluorescent light noises. They will collaborate a presentation of laser beam and fluorescent light noises as a duo.

Through “Compromise Bias 2014,” we hope to introduce excellent performances of avant-garde new media artists and explore the possibility of combining different genres. The artists try to strike a balance between different cultures, just like “Compromise” proposed by Japanese artists. Following the spirit of “Bias,” we stay hungry for unknown experiment, introducing representative performances from abroad on the one hand, and challenging local artists with more possibilities on the other, so as to converge the creative power in Taiwan and connect with international artists.

Hisashi Saito (JP)

Galcid

http://www.neuronrecords.com/

Galcid, as what they address themselves, is a female synthesizer duo. They are crazy about synthesizers, and host a program “Synthesizer Café” on Ustream to explain the basis and charm of synthesizers in an easy way. Their works, though created by two girls, are indeed acid electronic music, far from feminine. Their improvised performance is unexpected like a fantasy. The seemingly composed duo can make aggressive music beyond imagination, and men are even put to shame by that. In December 2013, they have performed with famous DJs, like Takkyu Ishino and Fumiya Tanaka, in Liquidommune, further enhancing their capability.

Hisashi Saito

http://www.neuronrecords.com/

Hisashi Saito released his first album Gult Dep by Victor Entertainment. He has been a member of Y Seth King, Logic system led by Hideki Matsutake, and the European tour of 8bit project, which remixing hit songs worldwide into 8 bit music. Now he works as a producer in Synthesizer Café, a synthesizer club. As a composer, he also takes part in the development of AIRA, a musical instrument made by Roland.
