執行長序
台北數位藝術中心繼2009年魔幻動畫展,今年邀請了旅居台灣非常關心台灣文化發展的法籍動畫導演Karim Turbez和台灣動畫創作者張正霖攜手策劃KINETOSCOPE-活影活現動畫展,原初的策展理念以偶動畫和一部動畫片的製作過程為展覽軸心,藉由兩位策展人對於台灣動畫產業的熟悉,嘗試性邀請台灣動畫創意公司參與展出,由於動畫製作須投入龐大資源和許多商業性的行銷策略,因此在台灣屬於個人獨立創作比較少見,但出乎意料地多數動畫公司對此展覽有著正面的肯定與參與意願,促成了這次動畫產業首度結合在台灣數位藝術的領域之下,聯合發表作品,添增了KINETOSCOPE-活影活現動畫展的特殊性,這次的展覽不但可以讓觀眾進一步了解台灣的動畫產業,並且搶先觀賞多部尚未公開播映的影片。
KINETOSCOPE-活影活現動畫展共分為「台灣動畫產業」、「獨立動畫創作」和「丹麥動畫學院」三大主軸,除了包括台灣十間動畫創意公司的原創作品之外,「獨立動畫創作」共邀集了國內外六位獨立創作者,其中四部偶動畫的創作者分別來自於美國、德國和台灣等國家,雖然風格迥異,但皆存有顯著的個人特色。此三大主軸之動畫影片其內容構思、媒材運用、創作風格形成三大鮮明色塊,也凸顯了活影活現動畫展的獨特性。
台北數位藝術中心在暑假期間將舉辦多場動畫導覽、論壇和工作坊,為了使觀眾進一步了解偶動畫的製作過程,還特地邀請日本偶動畫師比嘉兄弟(Higa bros.)來台參與創作論壇和偶動畫研習營,此次展覽不僅跨足動畫產業界,並與學界和社區共同合作推廣台灣動畫,台北數位藝術中心歡迎大眾進入偶動畫的奇幻世界。
Foreword from the CEO
Followed by the “ANIMA” Exhibition 2009 held at Digital Art Centre, Taipei Karim Turbez, the famous French animation director, who resides in Taiwan and has constantly been concerned about the development of Taiwan culture, is invited by the organizer, to work with Taiwan animation creator, Cheng-Lin CHANG, for the planning of KINETOSCOPE Animation Festival 2010. The original design is to choose puppets animation and production process of a certain animation as the core of exhibition, furthermore, several Taiwan animation creation companies are expected to participate under the invitation of both organizers with rich experiences and know-how in the area. Since numerous resources and commercial marketing strategies are required by animation production, the individual creations are relatively rare in Taiwan. However, beyond our expectation, quite a few animation companies confirm the accomplishment of exhibition and express their enthusiasm for participation, which facilitates the first joint display of Taiwan animation industry of digital art, also enhances the uniqueness of KINETOSCOPE Animation Festival. The visitors are not only allowed to better understand Taiwan animation industry, but also to be the spectators enjoying several films before the public display.
Three major sections constitute the KINETOSCOPE Animation Festival, namely, Taiwan animation industry, Individual Animation Works, and Denmark Animation Workshop, apart from the original works of ten Taiwan animation companies, the section of individual animation works includes the partaking of six domestic and international individual creators; four of their works are from the US, Germany, and Taiwan respectively, although highly different in style, but personal characteristics are well kept. The animations of these three sections are strong distinguished in terms of content conception, media materials application, and creation style, forming the uniqueness of KINETOSCOPE Animation Festival.
Digital Art Centre, Taipei schedules a number of animation exhibition guides, forums and workshops during the summer vacation. In order to let visitors further realize the production process of puppets animation, the Centre especially invites Higa brothers, the eminent puppets animation masters in Japan to Taiwan for taking part in the creation forum and puppets animation seminar. The exhibition 2010 broadly covers the animation industry, with the aim to promote Taiwan animation in collaboration with academic domain and community. Digital Art Centre, Taipei enthusiastically welcome each one of you to join us and enter the fantastic world of puppets animation.

數位藝術於現在已不是個陌生詞彙,它更是凸顯科技時代所演化的新生活模式。日常生活中一些便利的微小科技一旦成為創作元素,都可讓藝術更貼近生活經驗,喚起大眾的共識,原創性的動畫更是如此。台灣從七○年代動畫代工角色至今轉變成為具有原創性的動畫大國,整個動畫界逐漸改變型態,將牽動著台灣動畫教育。
過去台灣統一性的教育無形中扼殺了學生許多的創意和想像力。為了增添台灣藝術圈、設計業界或文化相關產業新血,培育具有創意的動畫人才,一直是本校多媒體設計系的教育目標之一,本校多媒體設計系旨在培養學生具有數位內容應用之設計能力,敏銳地觀察週遭環境的能力,並能關注藝術在數位時代的持續發展,在技與術兼具之下,孕育新一代的藝術家、設計師或文化人。
在本校多媒體設計系林育弘主任的策劃下,本校首次和台北數位藝術中心合作協辦KINETOSCOPE-活影活現動畫展,期能讓有志於數位藝術發展的業界人士或學生透過此展覽,更瞭解未來動畫產業的發展方向,或是各種小型工作室的創作機會等。為了結合產學界的多元面向,在本校所舉辦的「國際偶動畫研習營」也特別邀請日本動畫師比嘉兄弟、法國動畫導演Karim Tubez和產業人士擔任演講人,透過論壇、研習營或工作坊,與業界大師相互切磋,讓與會人士與學生的美學視野和專業,有所精進。

Digital art is no more a strange term and it punctuates a new living model evaluated with technology era. In our daily life, once convenient and micro technology become creation elements, art will be closer to our living experience and the public awareness will also be improved. This also applies to animation film creation. Since the 1980s, Taiwan gradually transformed itself from an OEM maker to original animation creator and the gradual changes of the whole industry also led animation education in Taiwan.
In the past, Taiwan’s uniform education system killed creativity and imagination. Cultivating creative animation talents for the art circle, design industry or culture related industry has long been the education goal of the Department of Multimedia Design of the Institute which aims to equip students with the design ability to apply digital contents, to observe the surrounding environment, and to care for the continuous development of art in digital era, the next generation artists, designers, or cultural workers with technology and art literacy.
Planned by Director of the Department of Multimedia Design of the Institute, Mr. Yu-Hong Lin, we, for the first time, cooperate with Digital Art Center, Taipei to organize KINETOSCOPE for the participation of talents and students interested in art development, the understanding of future development of animation industry, or provision of creation opportunities for small scale studios. In order to facilitate diversified academic and industrial cooperation, the Institute also organizes the “Workshop” and invites Higa Brothers from Japan, French animation director, Karim Tubez, and industrial leaders to be presenters. Through forum, workshop, or study session, participants are able to learn from these gurus and that will definitely benefit their aesthetic vision and profession.

策展理念
動畫的概念,從千年以前的古埃及壁畫上,可以看出古人已經具有豐富的想像力,能使用有意義的連續圖像來表達事物的變化。19世紀時出現了一種稱為幻影箱(Zoetrope)的觀賞玩具,透過一條纖細的窄縫觀看旋轉的圓筒紙,能讓觀賞者產生繪畫在運動的錯覺。
19世紀末期,動畫和攝影產生結合,從手繪的信手塗鴉,到任何能夠移動、運動的各種媒材,經過攝影連續的播放之後,都能成為傳達動畫想像力的表現方式,活動電影放映機的出現「KINETOSCOPE」,使得動態影像正式進入了大眾娛樂與想像的世界。21世紀的今天,動畫的呈現方法、其媒材多樣性與題材深度,已經成為一種體現文化、結合商業與藝術應用,超脫現實與虛幻的表演形式。
連續的圖片在高速轉動下,所造成的視覺暫留,是動畫藝術的基礎概念,故本次展覽以「KINETOSCOPE」這款早期的活動式電影放映機為題,象徵動畫藝術家憑藉豐富想像力與靈巧雙手,逐格打造出部部經典的堅定美學,更期望從觀者內心開啟對動畫藝術的肯定。
國內動畫同業的多年辛勤耕耘,卻鮮少有機會曝光於台灣民眾面前,一般社會大眾對動畫的印象多半還停留在歐美與日本動畫,今年有幸能夠邀請到國內具代表性的動畫公司共襄盛舉,希望能夠透過這次展出的機會,讓國人對於台灣本土產業在動畫創意上的專業及努力有更深一層的瞭解;另外也囊括了國際知名的丹麥動畫學院以及獨立創作人參與展出,透過宣傳優秀的國內外動畫作品,讓一般民眾以及未來想從事相關行業的新鮮人,體會到動畫的無窮魅力。
Concept of the Exhibition
The idea of animation can be found in ancient Egypt cave paintings which revealed the abundant imagination of people at that time and their attempt to convey the perception of change through series of drawings. In the 19th century, zoetrope was a toy consisting of a cylinder with slits cut vertically in the sides. As the cylinder spins, the user sees a rapid succession of images producing the illusion of motion.
In the late 19th century, with the combination of animation and photography, from hand-drawn sketches to any movable devices, by applying the theory of continuous photographic display, all become ways for artistic performance. Today in the 21st century, with unique production styles, varieties of media available, along with exploration of themes in depth, animation has become a form of cultural experience. It links up business and art application; meanwhile transcends reality and illusion as well.
The optical phenomenon of persistence of vision made by continuous moving images at a fast speed is the principle of animation art. The exhibition 2010, therefore chooses KINETOSCOPE, the forerunner of film projector as subject, signifying the animation artists creates classic permanent esthetics one partition after another, with their rich imagination and skillful hands, for directing the viewers to recognize the achievement of animation art from the bottom of heart.

The series revolves around Katz, a magical creature, and his group of friends from Bent-Boo Village. In the midst of all their fun, The Dark Messenger uses different evil tools to try to steal Katz and disturb the tranquility of the Village. In order to keep Katz away from the Dark Messenger, his friends form the energetic Katz Fun!
Katz inspires everyone’s potential to fight the Dark Messenger. Although they sometimes quarrel with one another, the Katz Fun members ultimately become united when facing the Dark Messenger.

《小太陽》動畫影集,由中國知名作家林良原著《小太陽》改編。《小太陽》是林良最膾炙人口的散文集,並獲得許多文藝創作獎項。他在這本書中記錄了人生中的許多可貴的「第一次」,結婚、成家、生子,到成為一個三個女娃的父親,這些生活中不能重來、可貴感人的片段,林良以他特有流暢的文筆,詼諧幽默的筆觸,栩栩如生地一一刻畫出來,紀錄了一個小家庭在點點滴滴的生活瑣事中,耐人尋味的幸福。
Synopsis:
The animation serials, “Little Sun” is adopted from the story, “Little Sun,” written by famous Taiwan writer Linliang. “Little Sun” is Linliang’s most popular prose collection. It has earned many literature awards. In the book, he records many “first times in his life,” including getting married, establishing a family, having child and becoming a father of three little girls. These touching moments that are not re-curable has been written vividly into the book by Linliang with his unique and fluent style, humorous attitude to mark the happiness of the daily routine in a little family.

studio 2 is a creative team that focuses on animation feature films, including TV, DVD, and 35mm Film. Works from Studio 2 have taken part in domestic and international film exhibitions and been nominated as the Best Creative Movies in Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival, Model Movie in Pusan Asian Short Film Festivals, Movie of Contest in Animadrid International Animation Festival, and Movie of Contest in Rio De Janeiro Short Film Exhibition. In addition, works from Studio 2 have won prizes like Champion in Taipei Film Festival and the Best Animation in The Golden Harvest Award for Short Film and Video. Operations in Studio 2 also cover digital post-production, special effects combinations, and so on.

小森巴穿上媽媽送的紅外套、藍褲子,拿著爸爸給的綠傘出門探險。 有四隻黃色老虎要吃小森巴,可是小森巴把身上的紅外套、藍褲子、藍鞋、紅傘送給那四隻老虎,求他們不要吃他。後來,四隻老虎碰見了,展開一場森林爭霸戰,彼此互不相讓,在一棵樹下轉圈追逐互咬,結果越跑越快,黃色的身體逐漸溶化成黃色的奶油。小森巴躲在樹後目睹一切經過,森巴爸爸剛好經過,就用手上提的水桶,裝滿老虎奶油得意洋洋地回家,讓媽媽用老虎奶油煎了香噴噴、呈現老虎條紋的煎餅,小森巴一口氣就吃掉169片。
Synopsis:
The little Samba put on the red coat and blue pants that his mum gave to him, took the green umbrella given by his daddy with him, he is ready for a fantastic exploration. There are four tigers eager to taste the little Samba, but the little fellow offered the four tigers his red coat, blue pants, blue shoes, and red umbrella and begged them not to eat him. Later on, a horrible fight was launched in the forest as the four beasts run into each other; it was surely an earth-shattering fight, the fierce animals circled around, chased and snapped one other, as they ran faster and faster, the yellow body melted gradually into milky cream. Hiding behind a tree, the little Samba saw everything, at this instant, the daddy of little Samba passed by, he came with a bucket in his hand and filled it with tiger cream, then they went home proudly together. The mummy of Samba used tiger cream for frying pancakes with tiger stripes on them; the little Samba ate 169 pieces in one breath.

Synopsis:
Adapted from the “Country of Women” in a famous Chinese classical novel- -Flowers in the Mirror, the work combines characteristics of both local shadow-play and ink-shadow animation. Tang Ao, protagonist of the story, lost gradually his confidence in life because of being not successful; he then went out to sea with Lin Zhiyang and Duo Jiugong for travelling all around the world, experienced various exotic customs in the Country of Woman. After that, Lin Zhiyang met with adversities and was kidnapped by king of the Country of Women, who wanted to take him as an imperial concubine. After careful deliberation, Tang Ao eliminated every difficulty, not only resolved the problem of flood disaster, but successfully rescued Lin Zhiyang and sent him back home, the leading role was therefore able to find self-confidence and direction of life again. This creation is a story animation rich with Chinese culture essence and humor.

《RUNNER》的主題以思索為中心,思索原本是在腦中進行的抽象概念,而我們大膽的嘗試,以具體而微地模擬、呈現以及局部放大。為了能將此構想加以具體化,思考各種動畫表現形式,最後選擇偶動畫,以偶動畫連接「虛」、「實」的特性,能具象地創造出超現實的空間,又能創造特殊質感的角色,結合出具有個人風格的影像。

The central topic of “RUNNER” is thinking, which originally is an abstract conception operated in the brain; we made some courageous attempts, i.e. miniature simulation, presentation as well as partially magnification. In order to concretize this notion, various types of presentation form were taken into account, and the puppet animation was eventually chosen for its quality of combining “false” and “true”, so as to concretely create super-realistic space and conceive the roles of special nature, the image with personal style consequently produced by integrating them.

生活中,總是有股不可違抗的力量 , 在阻止我們前進,我們好像逆境中的主角,永遠無法在引力的作用下獨自起飛,追求想像中的自由,彷彿生活就是不斷的和的地心引力戰鬥,就像十七世紀時的牛頓 先生一樣。但是就算樹上的蘋果再怎麼高不可攀,青澀綠色的也會漸漸轉紅,當我們不經意時,它已隨著地心引力落到促手可及地上了。
Synopsis:
In our life, there is always an irresistible force to impede us from progressing. By playing the leading role in an adverse circumstance, it seems that we can never fly independently against the power of gravitation while in searching of the imaginative freedom. For us, life is nothing more than an endless battle with gravity, just like Newton in the 17th century. Nonetheless, no matter how it is hard to reach the apple up high on the tree, the green apple will undoubtedly turn to red one day; at the moment as we are most careless, the apple, affected by the gravity, has fallen to the ground within reach.

活動內容
KINETOSCOPE-活影活現動畫展多部動畫以拍攝單張圖片的方式製作影片,因表現方式的不同,製作程序也有所改變。台北數位藝術中心藉由此展延伸相關活動,邀請業界塑偶專業人士蔣惠敏擔任講師,和策展人共同辦理6小時社區工作坊。由策展人講解偶動畫的製作流程,並將偶動畫多種製作方式介紹給學員,前半段課程由蔣老師教授如何運用骨架和塑偶,讓學生體驗動畫的角色設定和捏偶的樂趣,後半段則由張正霖策展人將偶與動畫結合,讓未受過專業訓練的學生,能集合團體分工的力量自製一部動畫短片。

KINETOSCOPE-活影活現偶動畫工作坊

台北數位藝術中心於2010年7月10日舉辦活影活現偶動畫工作坊,課程一開始邀請到法國動畫導演Karim Turbez 講解偶動畫的基礎概念,以及動畫裡的角色設定,接續由塑偶專業人士蔣惠敏老師指導學員製作玩偶。將參與工作坊的學員以每組四到六人為一小組團隊,蔣老師在課堂上協同討論角色設定和示範玩偶捏製,Karim導演也參與其中。
這次的工作坊是以超輕土來捏製玩偶,使用超輕土和樹脂土混合而成,人形骨架為玩偶的身體,再以超輕土混色附著至玩偶軀幹,學員裡有小朋友、大學生和美術老師大家發揮創意,有人捏成粉紅兔、怪獸電力公司、河童、獨眼人、鴨子……等多樣造型, Karim導演也捏製了一個黃色小怪物,課程後半段由中心技術人員劉宜倫先生教導Stop Motion偶動畫拍攝軟體,首先,每一組需集思廣益發想影片的名稱和主題,以每秒15張的圖片拍攝片頭,下週的課程再將偶加入劇情中,串聯成一部屬於自己的小小偶動畫。
活影活現偶動畫工作坊藉由此次展覽,結合偶的製作課程,讓學員除了觀賞展出的動畫作品,可更進一步的拆解製作動畫的流程,即使小小的靈感和簡單的工具也可以製作出靈活靈現的動畫作品,深受大眾的喜愛。

KINETOSCOPE-活影活現偶動畫工作坊

偶動畫製作分為兩個星期舉辦,學員在上周六各自完成偶的捏塑,延續上周蔣惠敏老師的超輕土玩偶教學,本周邀請另一位策展人張正霖來指導學員完成一小段偶動畫。
張正霖老師自備小短影片來解說拍攝動畫的分隔畫面,以一分鐘擷取24張單張影像串連成玩偶的動作,因玩偶質料的差異性將產生不同肢體的表現,例如使用樂高製作的偶肢體較為簡化,反之,賦予偶的手腳關節則較能表現出細膩的情緒。
每組學員都依照玩偶的形象來編導一個故事,小朋友發揮天馬行空的想像力,無論在偶的造型或影片的呈現加入許多創意,作品更展現出小朋友的童趣。這次學習偶動畫製作的成員大多是第一次拍攝定格動畫,雖在角色的個性設定、肢體表現掌握較不精確,並非是專業的創作作品,但每一隻玩偶的造型卻令人感到驚艷,在沒有學院的束縛之下,呈現了顛覆傳統思維的精采的作品。每位學員最後可擁有自製的偶動畫影片,作為暑假難忘的學習經驗。
